We organised a special treat for our Members for RAD Members Day on Sunday 21st April 2024.

An exclusive Zoom conversation featuring the incredibly talented Shaun James Kelly,  Choreographer in Residence and Soloist for the Royal New Zealand Ballet (RNZB). Joined by our NZ National Director, Bronwyn Williams, Shaun captivated our members with his insights into the world of dance and choreography.

Shaun's illustrious career has taken him across the globe, working with leading creatives in Scotland, England, Denmark, and for the past decade, the RNZB. His achievements speak volumes, including winning the prestigious 2016 Harry Haythorne Choreographic Award for his remarkable work, "Blanc."

During our conversation, Shaun graciously shared his experiences and expertise, offering invaluable tips and advice to our budding choreographers among the members. From his creative process to his recent works such as "Prismatic," inspired by Russell Kerr's landmark ballet, Shaun provided a glimpse into the artistry and dedication required in the world of dance.

We were privileged to learn about Shaun's acclaimed performances, including his dazzling portrayal of Puck in "Midsummer Night's Dream" and his critically acclaimed role as Hansel in Loughlan Prior's "Hansel and Gretel." Additionally, Shaun shared with us the captivating work "Behind Closed Doors," performed by ex-RNZB dancers Kat and Joseph Skelton, offering insights into the creative process during the challenges of the COVID-19 lockdown.
