Summer School 2024

On the 15th January 2024, over 120 students, 20 tutors and 22 teachers came together at Te Whaea Wellington for a fun-filled week of dancing at the RAD Summer School.

The Summer School provides an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in dance, learning within a creative environment, from top professional teachers in the industry whilst making friends with like-minded students from around NZ. The week enhances students’ dance technique and artistry and culminated in a sharing of work on the final day of the course

Vocational Students engaged in one week of classes including Ballet, Repertoire, Contemporary, Jazz/Musical Theatre, Conditioning and Choreography.

Grade students’ one week programme included Ballet, Repertoire, Creative, Character/Folk, Musical Theatre and a trip to the pool for some Aqua ballet.

Our experienced Tutors included Kat and Joseph Skelton, Shaun James Kelly, Sophie Ryan, Lauren Byrne, Esther Robinson, Jess Johns Neroli Hunt, Chantelle Scoon, Frankie Sampson, Alina Kulikova, Kathiy Watson and Jun Samblaceno.

The Teachers completed a range of courses including Enhancing Safe Teaching, Safeguarding, Technique and Artistry, ballet basics and beyond, Inclusive Dance, Pointe conditioning and Mental Health and Resilience.  Their tutors included Lucinda Dunn OAM, who travelled from Australia for the course as well as Erin Bowerman, Julia Grace, Sophie Ryan and Hayleigh Rossetter.  Again, teachers travelled from far and wide to come together with other RAD teachers and share skills and reflect on their teaching practices.
